Narail of Narial Fakir
There are different opinions among various historians and thinkers about the naming of Narail. Legend has it that the name Narail originated from the well blessed by Narial Fakir. During the reign of Nawab Alivardi Khan, one of his servants, Madangopal Dutta, came to Kurigram with his family by boat. Here he saw a fakir meditating on the steps of Kachuri. He was Narial Fakir. Madangopal Dutta bowed down and sought his blessings. The fakir was happy and gave him his stick (nari) and ordered him to cultivate the area. With the blessings of the fakir, he settled in Kurigram and gradually the area became populated. Narial got its name from the blessings of the fakir. Later, the name Narail was derived from Narial, which was corrupted by the people.
